Christian/Muslim ThreadsMuhammad on trial: Part 1.I have been thinking and searching on this topic lately. I have not yet find any other hadith mentioning the gap [in context of marrige of Aisha]. It is perhaps not a mandate but there's still the reality of gap and it has practical implications. Here is the verse: 2:237 And if ye divorce them before consummation, but after the fixation of a dower for them, then the half of the dower (Is due to them), unless they remit it or (the man's half) is remitted by him in whose hands is the marriage tie; and the remiss ion (of the man's half) is the nearest to righteousness. And do not forget Liberality between yourselves. For God sees well all that ye do. Here, I agree with H20. Even though the marriage is not consummated, the couple is still legally married (nikkah). So I think, the 6-9 year narrations are still problematic. That is possibly the reason why Muslims did not ever see this be a problem. They thought Aisha was privileged that she reached puberty physically and mentally early. (She was distinctively clever.) But anyways Muslims did not cover up the issue as Christians say. You see Muslims uttering those (problematic) hadiths anywhere. Yet they do not attempt to marry their daughters at 6 or 9, because they think Aisha was privileged. Finally, my last word on Aisha's age. Aisha was in her teens when she married Muhammad. |
