ArchivedWhy do you oppose gay marriage?I don't believe you should be discriminated against for being gay. I also don't believe that lack of monogamy is the basis for denying marriage to heterosexual couples. I believe and can show through studies that same-sex sexual relationships are inherently unstable, short lived, and seldom if ever monogamous. However, I don't agree with you that marriage is a right for same-sex couples just because you want to change centuries of tradition to satisfy your libido. "I rather be right than President." Adlai Stevenson said this and history shows he was right after he lost the election. So you have the right to be wrong but you don't have the right to force your views on the majority in this country. Your appeal to the First Amendment as your basis for same-sex marriage when marriage is the union between male and female in every stable culture in the world regardless of the absence or presence of any religious beliefs is ludicrous. I for one will support and lobby for a Constitutional Amendment that makes male/female marriage the only legal union in this country. Then your appeal to the First Amendment will be mute. I take a lot of things in life very personally. I find the Medicare program inadequate for seniors forced to live on Social Security because of liberal laws that benefit big business and the wealthy and penalize the average citizen. I find our tort system being abused by attorneys to the detriment of our court system. I find the Supreme Court as a group of people making law not interpreting the Constitution and the ACLU as an organization out to make any religion that is opposed to new age philosophy illegal and criminal. I take your attack against my faith very personally, however I have not exercised my authority to close this thread, delete your posts, and ban you from ever posting again. Gay activists and proponents want tolerance and acceptance of their views while at the same time calling those who oppose their views parochial, close-minded, and homophobic. I happen to agree with Ben Franklin: Was Franklin a moral man? No, a contributing cause of his death was complications of syphilis. However, we have two issues here, the government’s responsibility to govern for the people, not special interests groups and personal morality. Why do you want or need societal approval for a lifestyle Christians, Muslims, and a lot of atheists find offensive and unnatural? Are you so insecure in your self-identity you need to legalize it? What benefits do you get from marriage? Current tax laws penalize married couples; our society has accepted and tolerated “significant others” for decades, big business’ are offering domestic benefits to unmarried employees including gay couples. So why do you feel the need to change and redefine millennia of social structure? |
