The Bible does not forbid interracial marriages. In fact there are several examples of such marriages. Moses and the Ethiopian, Solomon and a couple of his wives, and I could list even more. Christians have misused the Bible for centuries for their own purposes. Interracial marriage is a civil rights issue, not a morality issue.
As to who would it hurt for me to compromise my beliefs? The children from dysfunctional homes who are dealing with a homosexual orientation because of psychological reasons. Young people who could be free of this orientation with proper counseling and support.
Morgan, if you want me to compromise my beliefs and my ethics so you can marry another woman then I believe you should support complete and accurate education about religious, emotional, pre-1972 psychological studies concerning homosexuality (see Homosexuality by Irving Bieber, published in 1962) and give children the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Are you willing to insist the NEA offer such a criteria along with sensitivity training so gay youth are not bullied? Are you willing to support legislation that mandates equal time for both schools of thought since the APA forced the removal of homosexuality from the DSM III by executive committee action and not by a vote of the membership? Are you ready to show as much concern for the ex-gay's and those seeking change as you want us to show for you? 3% of the population is gblt and according to Bieber's study fully 50% of his research universe who stayed in counseling for 350 sessions successfully altered their sexuality with one 16 year-old who did it in one year. And this is a secular mental health professional not a religious "bigot" out to prove something.
Why do I oppose gay unions? To save the thousands of gay men and lesbian women who WANT TO CHANGE from being forced to accept what they don't find acceptable.
This is a two way street. If I can save one man or one woman decades of misery, suicidal thoughts, alcohol or drug addiction by stopping the legalization of a lifestyle that is not cut in stone I am satisfied I have done the right thing.
