No doubt about that. I don't want to sound like I'm oversimplifying the situation, but I blame the media for encouraging sex in a relationship over other stabilising factors (emotions, maturity, etc)
With a few exceptions, I do not exactly see Hollywood couples taking human relationships seriously. And it's not just adults I'm afraid, it's kids who are imitating the behaviors which the media seems to encourage. But that's another topic for another thread.
When you say emotional, I assume you are connecting that as a psychological factor in homosexuality.
"The church has taken a position of isolating sinners."
I forgot who said it, the church is supposed to be a hospital for sinners. Not isolate or alienate them.
I remember when one of the factors explaining homosexuality used to be to overbearing mothers. But that was not always the case. FDR's mother was a bit controlling and he was straight. Maybe a little too straight.
I also remember another reason, was to break free from the control of all women, that gay men are somehow "liberated" from women. But I think that remains to be seen.
"The next time you are at a social gathering watch how the men will congregate and gossip about sports, business, and other subjects of mutual interest. In most gatherings men will hit each other, lay an arm across another mans shoulder, etc. You will notice the same with women."
Yes I understand the bonding factor. Sure, it's not uncommon at all for men. But it does not imply any direct homosexual tendencies.
"Julie, I understand where Morgan is coming from, but she is looking for a quick and easy
solution to a problem that even “civil unions” will not cure."
"The idea that gay relationships are short-lived only because society will not legalize
them is ludicrous."
True, gay marriage would not put an end to the cruising factor. Especially is a gay married person says of his/her partner, "Gee, this isn't the one I am looking for, shall I keep on looking?" then what? divorce? remarriage? how many times?
I'm afraid I do not understand about legalization of gay unions empowering the gay community. I thought they had other empowering methods already? --
As for the state of Massachussetts, well, they're pretty liberal up there, I wouldn't be surprised if they did legalize gay marriage.
Finally, even if gay marriage was made legal it still would not put an end to the dangers involved in the lifestyle. AIDS/HIV would still be a factor, not to mention the methods male homosexuals use, if a partner should wind up dead...what then, Morgan? Are we going to have a whole new set of legislation for crimes committed in a gay marriage? Because that is what it would come down to.
