Religious Cults & False Prophets~ Discussions and DebatesCritical Identity of Baptism
The above passage of Scripture you quoted has nothing to do with speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. Paul said those who speak in tongues speak mysteries unto God for no man understands them (1 Cor 14:2,7,9,11,14). How can anyone be misled by something they don't understand? !!! Nor does this passage have anything to do with the gift of tongues which is accompanied by interpretation that is regulated by the law of the testimony of two or three witnesses to insure that does not happen (1 Cor 14:27,29). If anything this passage of Scripture could remotely apply to the misuse of the gift of prophecy (1 Cor 12:10, 14:29) but that is unlikely because that gift is highly regulated. What Jeremiah is talking about is false prophets. The phrase "that use their tongues" simply means utterance of speech. Speaking in tongues as a prayer language for self edification could not and does not cause people to err. People cannot be misled by a false prophet unless they can understand what is being said. To prophesy is to speak in undertood language. Read 1Corinthians chapter 14. In O.T. times the only regulation to weed out false prophets was to test those claiming to be a prophet by the accuracy of their shot-term prophecies. If the short-term prophecies were true the prophet would be accepted. If not, the false prophet would immediately be put to death. You have no clue what you are talking about. |
