Religious Cults & False Prophets~ Discussions and DebatesCritical Identity of Baptismhisway wrote:(Omega) wrote:
Lets see what all scriptures saith:
Behold, I am against the prophets, saith the LORD, that use their tongues, and say, He saith. Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the LORD, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the LORD. And when this people, or the prophet, or a priest, shall ask thee, saying, What is the burden of the LORD? thou shalt then say unto them, What burden? I will even forsake you, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 23:31-33
To sum it up, those who claim that their speaking in tongues are a direct revelation from the LORD when it is not, are Condemned.
The above passage of Scripture you quoted has nothing to do with speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. Paul said those who speak in tongues speak mysteries unto God for no man understands them (1 Cor 14:2,7,9,11,14). How can anyone be misled by something they don't understand? !!! Nor does this passage have anything to do with the gift of tongues which is accompanied by interpretation that is regulated by the law of the testimony of two or three witnesses to insure that does not happen (1 Cor 14:27,29). If anything this passage of Scripture could remotely apply to the misuse of the gift of prophecy (1 Cor 12:10, 14:29) but that is unlikely because that gift is highly regulated. What Jeremiah is talking about is false prophets. The phrase "that use their tongues" simply means utterance of speech. Speaking in tongues as a prayer language for self edification could not and does not cause people to err. People cannot be misled by a false prophet unless they can understand what is being said. To prophesy is to speak in undertood language. Read 1Corinthians chapter 14. In O.T. times the only regulation to weed out false prophets was to test those claiming to be a prophet by the accuracy of their shot-term prophecies. If the short-term prophecies were true the prophet would be accepted. If not, the false prophet would immediately be put to death. You have no clue what you are talking about.
Right back at ya!
Re-read the quote hisway, if you believe that all tongue speaking cannot be false then you had better think again my friend. It not only applies to false prophets but to those who use their tongues to deceive. Since prophecy can be uttered by tongues according to false charismatic teachers who prophecy falsely, Only a naive person such as yourself would believe that all utterances from the tongue is a direct revelation from God.
BTW, you bypassed my argument:
Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? (do all speak with tongues?) do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way. 1 Corinthians 12:29-31
I suppose
you are all of the above correct?
