Religious Cults & False Prophets~ Discussions and DebatesCritical Identity of BaptismIt is your understanding that is flawed. I already addressed this argument in this thread. The fact is, the believers were commanded KJV (ordered NAS) to be baptized immediately after it was evident they had received the Holy Ghost. The order of receiving the Holy Ghost prior or after the water baptism is irelevent. To be "commanded (ordered)" to do something indicates it is not optional. Tell me, why did Peter command them to be baptized? This Scripture has no relation to the topic here. But let me ask you this: Is "repentance" a work for salvation? This Scripture speaks nothing of the topic at hand. This simply shows the grace of God granting repentance. However, unless one actually "repents" that grace cannot be applied. So, I ask again is repentance a work for salvation? One cannot obtain the grace God offered here unless they repent. The grace is conditional upon doing the repenting, correct? If one never repents, then what? It is the same for water baptism. The grace of remission of sins is conditional upon getting water baptized. If water baptism is a work for salvation then repentance must also be a work for salvation. On the other hand, if repentance is a grace then water baptism must also be a grace. How is grace obtained? Through faith, correct? And faith without works is dead, correct? Therefore, repentance is work of faith the same as water baptism is a work of faith which in turn obtains the grace.
It is you who ignore what the balance of Scripture teaches. Tell me, where in the accounts in the Book of Acts when those received the baptism of the Holy Ghost evidenced with speaking in tongues also gave "Interpretation"? What disguishes the sign of Spirit baptism from the spiritual gift of 1 Corinthians chapter 12 is the gift of tongues must be interpreted. All the spiritual gifts must be regulated within the assembly. When "tongues" as a spiritual gift is used Paul said, "let it be by two, or at the most by three...and let one interpret" (1Cor14:27). That was not the case in any of the accounts in the Book of Acts where larger groups spoke in tongues at the same time. There was no interpretation of the tongues spoken not once in the accounts of the Book of Acts. "They" were heard speaking in tongues only. Moreover, I never said water baptism saves anyone. Tell me, does repentance save anyone? This analogy is irelevent. Faith without works is dead. I explained this above. So, if a person never repents of their sins but simply believe Jesus is the Christ are they saved? What if a person believes in Jesus Christ but do not live an obedient life can that faith save them? Faith is being a doer of the Word and not a hearer only. You do not even know what saving faith is do you? |
