Trinity DebateJesus as the embodied pre-existent SonI wouldn't consider it a challenge to God's sovereignty that God is our Lord and Savior and defeated Satan. Some of what you say is correct, Aineo, but God giving Jesus authority to raise himself doesn't even make sense. If Jesus were only a man in the sense as you and I, when He died then he would be in the hands of Satan and would be powerless to him. What makes Jesus so different and special is that He is God With Us. God is our Lord and Savior, our Holy One and Redeemer. OT hymns are full of phrases like this. God said He was, is, and ever will be. God just is. Jesus just is, too. Where does it specifically condemn Jesus's preexistence? Jesus's divine mission was known beforehand, this was stated and is accepted by both of us. I don't know where your absolutism comes from. Is that when you said that the Father doesn't need anyone to complete Him? Well, He required the Son. The Son does fulfill Him! John 15:26 "When the Advocate comes whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth that proceeds from the Father, he will testify to me. The Holy Spirit is a personality, not a thing. The Spirit proceeded from the Father thus is of the same nature and substance as the Father. If you've read Acts, you'd notice the Spirit speaks. This is indeed a person. I Corinthians 8:6 shows that the Son completes the Father. I've explained to you that the picture of who Jesus, the Father, and the Holy Spirit are is like a puzzle. You need to put the pieces together. The Nicene Creed is derived from scripture, nothing imported. It presents the complete picture of God, so to speak, as shown in scripture. It's a truth that men compiled the Nicene Creed; it's not true to say that the Trinity is an invented concept based on some imported beliefs. It's purely and uniquely Christian. If you're ashamed of this religion, then I am sorry. It's the logical inevitable conclusion. The preexistence of Jesus as a divine being is a key when we speak of the Son as eternally begotten of the Father. Jesus is the very imprint of the Father's being. And we know that the Father is our one God. So, Jesus too is our one God. The Holy Spirit is God, you and the Jews believe this. But hey, He's also a distinct Person. |
