ArchivedHoly Crusades...Ok, it didn't have to wait until tomorrow I'm going to try to be brief with this though, because I do have to get to work tomorrow. You state this as a fact, however I do understand that this is an opinion. The way that I believe God wants us to live is to help each other and to enjoy ourselves as much as possible without hurting others. While there are many Christian beliefs that fall under that heading, there are also alot more that do not. Which one of us is right? There is absolutely no proof for the existance of God, therefore we could both be wrong. No, however if people would allow other adults to live their lives according to what is comfortable for them (barring harming others, of course) we wouldn't be discussing it either. The whole point is that not everyone agrees with Christian Morality - and it would be far easier to allow people to decide for themselves what is right and wrong rather than having it dicated to us from a Faith that we don't believe. This was in response to a request I had for you to prove your faith - I admit it, however the question was rhetorical as I answered in the next sentence that you can't prove it. As I have said many many many times - I do not claim that Paganism is THE truth. I claim that it is A truth. Belief in my religion does not imply that others cannot exist. If you feel that my religion is false, the burden is on you to either prove mine false or prove yours correct. I don't claim that yours is false, therefore there is no burden on my shoulders to attempt to do so. Of course...after that the topic got COMPLETELY sidetracked because we were discussing the persecution of different groups. Let me start the slate clean - ok? These are mostly opinions below - please treat them as such. 1) Regardless of what faith you follow, you (and I) are unable to prove our own religion as being "right" or another religion as being "wrong". Therefore, using faith as a basis for a "higher moral ground" is a fallacy. Neither you nor I can provide a provable source for our morals. 2) Persecution sucks. I believe that the persecution of any non-criminal is wrong - regardless of faith, color, creed, gender, height, weight, tastes, activities. Any person that harms another person intentionally deserves to have their rights removed (which is why we have laws). I don't know how much of this you agree with, but I'm going to push on... 3) Persecuting a group or class of people in "retaliation" for being persecuted is also wrong. 4) Semantics aside, to push a religion or faith on another person because of a deeply-held personal truth is wrong. If you can't back it up then it becomes the other person's choice to hold the views that they feel comfortable with. Persecuting them for not "seeing things your way" is just as wrong as persecution in any form (which is what this topic is about, by the way). Have I left anything out? Basically, I'm wondering what business it is of anyone elses weather or not I have sex with men, groups, masterbate, look at pornography, smoke cigarrettes, drink (safely, of course), or worship my computer monitor. Ok, the last one I made up - however the rest are "rules" that are being pushed on mainstream society - not through rational debate or discussion, but through force, and it is primarily the Christian Fundamentalists that are attempting to foster their opinions on society in the way of laws. Why? that's the question - WHY? PS - I realize that my last post came off as...erm...nasty. I apologize for that - I really have no excuse for it other than being annoyed and tired. So...um...sorry! |
