ArchivedHoly Crusades...It's no different than a kid who gets suspended for wearing a Slayer, Megadeth, Sepultura, Kiss, or Ozzy t-shirt Using school grounds - technically - that is probably a liability issue. Now, I agree that as long as it's not during school time it should be allowed...what state/city was this in? It's because he's not doing his job. I am a file clerk - it's not a glorious or a dangerous job, but the point still stands - if I claim that I cannot or will not do my job because of my religious beliefs, I would be told to find another job, and likely wouldn't even have time to pack before I was escorted out of the building. A trooper should know what his job will/can entail before he goes into that profession. I know many many Christians in the Military, and if they aren't willing to go overseas and kill whoever the US Government says is the bad guy, they shouldn't be in the Military - that is (ultimately) their job. No more offensive than all of the people that aren't Christians who are persecuted against. I have been persecuted because of my gender, my race (caucasian, believe it or not), my religion, my appearance, my height, my weight...darn near anything that makes me a human being has been used against me at some point in time in my life. It's called living in society - and while I don't agree with it, pretty much all you can do is live by the standards that you feel are appropriate. I don't persecute other people (at least I don't think I do...I suppose it's entirely possible I have judged someone based on appearance or culture. I do try not to, but it's so hard to tell when people don't let you know...) for any reason that they don't give me (I might persecute laziness or stupidity, but only after giving the person the opportunity to prove that those labels aren't accurate for them). Persecution happens - it does suck, there's no doubt about that, but does that justify persecuting others who very likely may not be the "group" that is the cause of your own persecution? And just because something is illegal doesn't make it morally or ethically wrong. All it means is that (sometimes) you make criminals out of honest, moral people. Likewise with teens wearing band T-shirts or (and this was against policy in my own High School) T-shirts with alcohol brands on them. It's a matter of following the "rules" for that particular school. The rules are in place (usually) because *someone* takes it beyond what is reasonable. It's bound to happen. But does that justify breaking the rules? Does it justify legislating even dumber rules/laws? Is this in reference to the child that was not allowed to learn Wicca? I assure you - that case is still in the works. Aside from that, I'm unaware of any case where a person or group of people were not allowed to practice their Faith in their home. If you're talking about the school thing again, school isn't private property. (I realize that some religious practices are against the law, however those are the specific practices, not the faiths (such as human sacrifice, etc)). So you think that the Witch Trials and the Crusades were not only willed by God but were perfectly OK? Guess what: There are still tribes of Romanian Gypsies around. There are still Native Americans that can and do practice their respective Faiths. Buddhists are still around, as are Taoists. There are plenty of Fam-Trad Witches that are still breeding and passing their Faith and Practices on to the next generation. Not only that, saying that you don't care about other people because they don't practice your particular religion is sick. That's morally and ethically reprehensible. That's so disturbing I'm moving on before I offend you... Where are you getting your information from? Their religions are just as valid as your own. I realize you don't believe that, but that's simply because you obviously don't know history. No, it's because those of us that are not Christian are sick of having your religion jammed down our throats while we are stuck having more and more of our rights stripped away. You talk about how sad it makes you that Christians are SOOOooooo persecuted - you are getting the same treatment that you are fostering on other people. If you don't like having it done to you, then don't do it to other people. Geez...the hypocracy here is really astounding... Prove it. You base most of your argument here on your belief - if you want a debate or a discussion, use fact. If you can't prove this as fact I suggest you do some research and maybe learn something... LOL!!! The reason I dislike certain Christians (not all, just the ones that I happen to dislike) is they are totally unwilling to accept other people as they recieve them and are totally unable to prove that the other people are wrong. You claim that you are the only person (or group of people) who are entitled to an opinion? You claim that it's not an opinion but a fact? If it's a fact, prove it. If it's an opinion, then I'm *just* as entitled to mine as you are to yours. Morals and ethics don't play into the discussion at all, actually, since you get your Morality from a book (which I feel is fiction) whereas I get mine from my concience - so how could I feel morally or ethically inferior to you, if I act on my own moral judgement? It's an emotional impossibility! |
