ArchivedHoly Crusades...Hey there The problem here is that you can't prove it. There are more people in the world that *don't* follow or believe your religion than there are that do - and they don't happen to believe you. Without proof, the religious (not just Christian) lawmakers are little more than pushy control freaks (sorry if that comes off as offensive, it's just an opinion). Ok, that's faith. Once again, prove it. If I were to legislate laws to make chocolate milk illegal in the United States, you (and billions of others) would want me to prove to you why it should be against the law. I could point to studies on obesity and tooth decay, however it is unlikely that the laws would ever pass - the numbers do not support the measures. Any time you remove my rights, you have forced me to live my life in a matter with which I would rather not live. That is force. I'm Pagan. I am PROUD and Pagan. I am an incredibly happy person - I have a wife and child whom I love dearly, a wonderful job which (hopefully) will have a nice promotion within the next couple of weeks , I help people on a daily basis which makes me feel good. That notwithstanding: Who gives anyone the right to "force" their beliefs on another? I'm specifically talking about laws here. But when did it become your job to force me to live in a manner that you approve of? I'm not talking about religious discussion or debate here - I have no problems with someone trying to convince me to be Christian. Where I have the problem is when the religious (and once again, not just Christian) attempt to force me into a legal mold where all of my actions have to be approved of by them. I am re-reading the Bible - I haven't gotten that far yet. Does Jesus say, "Once you have accepted me as your savior, legistlate laws that remove other people's choices so that they can't sin."? Well, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by this - if what you mean is, "The church should keep to itself and let the government keep to itself", I couldn't agree more. Please elaborate, because I get the impression that that isn't what you're saying here. |
