ArchivedHoly Crusades...At least one of us is confused . Check the topic - I'm not concerned about religion, I'm concerned about harm. If you claim that something that goes against your religion causes harm, offer me up some proof. That's what I was referencing - I do not see how pornography causes harm, you claim that your religion tells you it does - that's where the proof needs to come in. My Faith says nothing one way or the other about pornography - my opinions are based on experience and practice, not religion. I hope that's all the confusion there was...didn't mean to be argumentative... I'm not attempting to use my religious views to legislate laws. Now, I'm not saying that you do - however that is the topic
Once again - I think we are misunderstanding each other. The topic was how can the religious (not just Christians, but any religion) justify validating their claims that the way I live my life is any of their business? (Yes, I know it was phrased differently...I can't seem to find a way to say it that doesn't seem inoffensive or cumbersome ) Hehe...no, I'm not accusing anyone in particular of behaving in any other than a rational manner - I know there are a few on the site, and I'm sure they know who they are. My origional question was just a matter of curiousity in what is wrong with allowing people to live their lives? Aineo has given me a few responses - and I know that he's not even of the "Turn 'em or Burn 'em" brigade - Like I said - I think you and I have a misunderstanding on the topic You aren't being forced to get an abortion, and as long as you are following your religious tennets I don't see you getting executed any time soon. Those are not religious issues, they are political ones... This I'm not sure of - I know when I was in High School (geez...12 years ago...<cry>) prayer was allowed on our own time. We were even offered the oppportunity to pray in one of the classrooms *before* school - as long as it wasn't during school time or in a public area it wasn't a problem. As far as T-shirts go - there are plenty of band t-shirts that kids can't wear either because it "promotes Satanism". The ridiculous laws are just that - ridiculous. So do you justify the view that pornography should be illegal because so many other things are against the rules, why not add one more to the list? I'll be honest - I'm having a hard time finding the point here... All of that is fine - no complaints from me because I still have the right to do the same. I do not have a problem with prayer in schools or in public, as long as my son is not pressured or forced into participating - that is the issue that most parents have with religion in school. Does that include eliminating things that have no affect on you whatsoever? Perhaps I should clarify things a bit here: I started this thread in response to this one. I am including any other topic which has been up on the chopping block in recent decades - homosexuality, rock music, etc...pornography is just (IMO) the obvious one. |
