ArchivedHoly Crusades...I was not aware of the Supreme Court's ruling - that's totally cool by me! I'm not offended by something being displayed in places where it is appropriate. I don't think that anything religious should be displayed in Government buildings, just as posting pornography in a daycare is equally as inappropriate I'm not offended by the 10 Commandments: If I want to see them or hear about them I know where I can find them (ie, the Bible or in church). You don't go to the courthouse to view pornography, why should I be subjected to religion when I go somewhere to take care of a parking ticket or participate in Jury Duty? It may sound extreme to think that my religion will be held against me, but you've been to PF and seen some of the posts: There have been (and currently are) many people who are being harrassed by those in Government because of what religion they believe in. IMO the 10 Commandments in Courthouses only reinforce that it's OK. Of course, that's my opinion as long as other religious faiths are not observed in the same places - your statement regarding the Supreme Court's ruling null-and-voids my opinon We can only hope that that is the case. Like I said, you've seen the articles posted and heard the news: Parents having their children taken away because they're Wiccan. It doesn't make it right, but it does happen. Placing the 10 Commandments in the Courthouse only makes it that much more likely that inequality will become more accepted. In 100 years (provided that we and the US are/is still around), people won't even remember a time when the 10 Commandments weren't in the courthouses, and the nature of humanity is that what has always been there must have always been true. I just see the potential for alot of problems in the future; why give those problems an opportunity to surface? Most of the founders weren't even Christian - I think they wanted to keep religion as far away from Government as possible. Regardless, as above, with the SC's ruling I agree that that's better than just allowing the 10 Commandments - at least it's mostly fair... Not really. I'm not asking that pornography be displayed on billboards or in the Courthouses. I don't go to court to watch strippers (and would never expect to). I go to a strip club to look at strippers. I go to the courthouse to deal with government stuff. I go to church to deal with religion. I would never expect to see pornography at church or in court, just as I'm sure you wouldn't want to see pornography in those places. You're right - it's not Christianities fault. But is it Christianities right? I don't know, legally, but I would say no - and that goes for my religion as well as the plethora of other religions out there. I just don't feel that Government should ever get involved in Church matters and vice versa (barring actual lawbreaking, of course). Nay, I know that OMW I doubt that you could truely offend me anyway - I think we know each other far too well for that |
