Christian/Muslim ThreadsMuslim view of the BibleNo. That's what the catholic/liberal world has to say about it. There are plenty of fundamentalist papers out there that say exactly the opposite. Here's one: http://www.biblebelievers.com/Jecob2.html This article explains one of the main differences between the KJV and the RSV is that they are translated from two different Greek texts. The KJV is from the Textus Receptus, which is the best preserved from the original extants, while the RSV is translated from the Westcot and Hort Text. For numerous other articles about the superiority of the KJV, go here: http://www.biblebelievers.com/BibleVersions.html Ok, I'll see what I can do. But you must keep in mind that when you quote the Times as saying the RSV is “the most accurate and close rendering of the original,” they are speaking of a different original than the KJV is from, so I will be addressing these issues from a KJV viewpoint. They were thrown out because the RSV is taken from a different greek text. The KJV has them in because it is taken from the Received Text, which scholars agree is the best and most complete text. Again they are from a different greek text. The Westcot and Hort Text leaves out many controversial teachings like the Trinity, because they are seeking to please as many people as possible, and the Trinity is not a very unifying doctrine. Rather than asking why are supposed fabrications in the KJV, you should ask why they are taken out of the RSV. The answer is simple and two-fold: 1) it is translated from a different (and compromising) greek text, and 2) the controversial doctrines are removed so that it will appeal to as many people as possible which translates into (as I said before) a quick buck. Authentic is fine. It still doesn't prove it is divine. If I have an original score that Mozart wrote, I truthfully can claim it is authentic, but that doesn't make it a divine piece of music. God tells us (in the Bible) that He will preserve His Word and that not one jot or one tittle will be removed. While we may not have originals, we can know that the Bible has been preserved because it remains infallible. If it had been altered, fallacies would have crept in. But it hasn't been altered, and this is evidenced by the fact that the Bible is infallible and has no contradictions. Yeah, you and everyone else on this forum! Topics are always started on one thing, and always end on something totally different. Oh well, keeps things interesting, no? |
