ArchivedWas Jesus a real person :: Re: Not ConvincedRe: Not Convinced Someday some person who disagrees with us will actually quote us correctly. You left out a couple of words that modify the my statement; "Jewish leaders considered Him a heretic" does not mean I believe He was a heretic. So you are willing to admit that mathematicians worldwide follow the teachings of men who never existed? Can we label this an act of faith? Hmmmmm. And I thought science was empirical. People will always debate, however, the oldest codex known is a fragment of John 18 dating back to 130 A.D. or about 40 years after John was written. Ah yes, the old standby the persecution of pagans by Christians. Actually what you had was the un-Biblical persecution of people for political and economic control. Roman Catholic apologists defend the tactics of that church with less than Christian logic. As to pagans who were persecuted how many of them were persecuted for a new faith less than 30 years old? The Egyptian's experience with Akhenaten is a good example. After his death it took less than 20 years to wipe out almost all vestiges of him and his sun god worship. You are reaching for explanations that are inane.
It is fairly easy to discount a person's non-existence when you refuse to accept any books or account that proves he did not exist. Try reading, "The Book Your Church Doesn't Want You To Read", or doing a Google search like someone else earlier in this forum suggested.
I have done the Google search Greg suggested I even posted the top 10 URL's returned by that search on this thread. Do you think what is found on those anti-Jesus sites is new? I read a lot of that information 40 years ago, but I also read the pro not just the con. I have also continued to read what the enemy (Satan) is putting on the market so I can see what he is up to, although I have not read the one you suggest, I will get a copy today. Do you know when all this “higher criticism” started? About the same time Darwin published his “The Origin of Species”. There were groups of people and some well known individuals who did not accept the Bible as inerrant before the mid 1800’s, one is Thomas Jefferson. He accepted the moral teachings of the Bible but he was a Universalist not a Christian. Have you taken the time to read the pro side of this question as extensively as you have the con? Or have you made up your mind and refuse to check out the other side? |
