What does the number of disciples have to do with what Jesus said in John 20? The 120 included men who did not become priests and women. By using this verse you show the Catholic Church is being a bit hypocritical with your sacrament of confession being only through a priest and then excluding women from the priesthood. This verse does not mean men can forgive sins.
Acts 10:43
43 "Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins." NAS
Colossians 1:13-14
13 For He delivered us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. NAS
John wrote:
1 John 1:9-10
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. NAS
Who is the One who is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness? God, and God alone.
So how can men retain the sins of others? By not preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ so those who believe are forgiven of their sins.
As to images your response is contradictory and ignores the purpose of the Ark of the Covenant. First you appeal to the cherubim on the ark and the brazen serpent and then you appeal to the 10 commandments which includes this:
Deuteronomy 5:8-10
8'You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth. 9'You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, and on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, 10 but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. NAS
The ark was a piece of furniture used to store the tablets of the Law, Aaron’s staff, and a jar of manna. It was topped with the mercy seat where once a year the high priest sprinkled the blood of the Yom Kippur sacrifice. Other than this one day the ark was hidden in the Holy of Holies and was not used by the Jews in their worship. The only man who could even look at the ark was the high priest after the Temple was constructed. The ark also served as God’s throne on earth and is where He communicated with Moses.
God’s instructions for how His Temple should be constructed is no justification for violating the 10 Commandments. As to the brazen serpent the Jews started to worship the serpent, which is why Hezekiah destroyed it. (2 Kings 18:4). This is what happens when people make for themselves images they worship the image.
I dealt with the Eucharist on the other thread. God prohibited the Jews from eating blood and the Council of Jerusalem affirmed this prohibition in Acts 15. Jesus died (was sacrificed) once for all and the Eucharist is a travesty of His once for all sacrifice.
I suggest you read my posts instead of interpreting my posts like the Catholic Church interprets the Bible. I did not post that Jesus did not speak of the Spirit. The real presence in the Eucharist is a manmade doctrine that is not taught in the Bible. The real presence is described in John 17.
John 17:19-23
20 "I do not ask in behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; 21 that they may all be one; even as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be in Us; that the world may believe that Thou didst send Me. 22 "And the glory which Thou hast given Me I have given to them; that they may be one, just as We are one; 23 I in them, and Thou in Me, that they may be perfected in unity, that the world may know that Thou didst send Me, and didst love them, even as Thou didst love Me. NAS
The Father and the Son are present with each and every true believer every day of their lives.
Jesus called the Pharisees whitewashed tombs and hypocrites for practicing their religion, which was based on the traditions of men.
Matthew 15:3-9
3 And He answered and said to them, "And why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 "For God said, 'Honor your father and mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother, let him be put to death.' 5 "But you say, 'Whoever shall say to his father or mother," Anything of mine you might have been helped by has been given to God, " 6 he is not to honor his father or his mother.' And thus you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 "You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
8'This people honors Me with their lips,
But their heart is far away from Me.
9'But in vain do they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the precepts of men.'
NAS
Matthew 23:27-28
27 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. 28 "Even so you too outwardly appear righteous to men, but inwardly you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
NAS
So what has Catholicism done? It has developed its own set of traditions and laws that deny our freedom in Christ
Romans 8:2-4
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.
NAS
Galatians 5:1
5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. NAS
Now lets address justification.
Romans 3:21-30
21 But now apart from the Law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, 22 even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction; 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His blood through faith. This was to demonstrate His righteousness, because in the forbearance of God He passed over the sins previously committed; 26 for the demonstration, I say, of His righteousness at the present time, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. 27 Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. 28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law. 29 Or is God the God of Jews only? Is He not the God of Gentiles also? Yes, of Gentiles also, 30 since indeed God who will justify the circumcised by faith and the uncircumcised through faith is one.
NAS
1 Corinthians 6:11
11 And such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, and in the Spirit of our God. NAS
Titus 3:4-7
4 But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, 5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that being justified by His grace we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. NAS
Our justification is a gift of God’s grace and an accomplished fact and nothing we can do can increase our justification.
Good works demonstrate our faith and we will be rewarded in heaven based on our good works. Good works will not get you into heaven.
Roses wrote: Uuhh, where do you see 1 Cor 5:45? There is no such verse number.
Anyway, you wrote what is true. The first Adam ... and the last Adam is the life-living spirit. You are right in what you wrote. But who do you think the last Adam is? Who do you think Paul meant? He meant Jesus of course. Even my Protestant brother knows that.
And he is completely ANTI-Catholic.
Your correct I left a number out of the chapter it should be 1 Corinthians 15:45. I did not post that Jesus is not the last Adam you are again interpreting my posts. I simply posted what Paul wrote. Jesus is the last Adam.
Eve tied the knot to our salvation with her disobedience and Mary untied the knot for us with her "Fiat" and obedience, making it so that Jesus can be born and dwell among us and redeem us. These opposites are saying that the Old was corrupted and in the New they were fulfilled and made perfect. Not only that but Eve was mother of all the living and Mary is the mother of all the living in the order Grace. Eve is actually "Eva" and Mary is actually "Ave." They are spelled backwords one to the other.
This is pure nonsense. Mankind fell because of Adam’s sin not Eve’s sin.
Romans 5:14
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam until Moses, even over those who had not sinned in the likeness of the offense of Adam, who is a type of Him who was to come.
NAS
1 Corinthians 15:22
22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all shall be made alive. NAS
1 Timothy 2:13-14
13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being quite deceived, fell into transgression. NAS
Mary is to Catholicism what Isis is to Egyptian mythology. You could have walked into any temple dedicated to Isis and have seen an idol of her holding her infant Horus. The concept of Mary as the mother of God came out of Alexandria Egypt.
The ark contained the Word of God right? We agree on that I hope. The Word of God was made flesh and dwelt among us right? Who then carried in the fruit of her womb the Word of God made flesh? None other than Mary! There is no way that you can argue with that. She is indeed the NEW ARK of the Covenant. Joseph knew that she was the Ark of the New covenant and therefore he knew that he could not touch her in a sexual way; as Joseph knows that no one can touch the Ark of the Covenant. We Catholics call Joseph (among many other names) "her most chast spouse." Mary remained a virgin all her life and Joseph remained chast all the while he was with her.
The ark contained the tablets with only the 10 commandments inscribed on them, not the whole word of God, so you analogy is both fallacious and idiotic. Mary and Joseph had other children after Jesus was born.
Matthew 13:54-58
55 "Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 "And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this man get all these things?" 57 And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, "A prophet is not without honor except in his home town, and in his own household." 58 And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.
NAS
His brother James became the Bishop of Jerusalem. Paul wrote:
Galatians 1:19 But I did not see any other of the apostles except James, the Lord's brother. NAS
The Greek word translated “brother” is “adelophos”, which means from the same womb when referring to biological brothers. The Greek for cousin is “anepsios” and the Greek for kinsmen is “suggenes”. Chaste marriages were not part of Judaism since the Jews concept of marriage is the same concept behind why the Catholic Church prohibits artificial birth control. Such a relationship is not in God’s will or design for marriage.
The definition of virgin includes an unbroken hymen. When Mary gave birth to Jesus she ceased to be a virgin. Your unholy traditions are heretical.
You see Roses, your traditions violate God’s truth and as such demonstrate the first major apostasy in Christianity came in the 4th century with the Catholic and Orthodox churches importing pagan and Gnostic concept into their doctrines.
