If you don't believe in having to do good works to get you to heaven then you should read the following;
Rom 2:5-10 (NAB) wrote:5 By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are
storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and
revelation of the just judgment of God,
6 who will repay everyone according to his works:
7 eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and
immortality through perseverance in good works,
8 but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the
truth and obey wickedness.
9 Yes, affliction and distress will come upon every
human being who does evil, Jew first and then Greek.
10 But there will be glory, honor, and peace for
everyone who does good, Jew first and then Greek.
Rev 14:12-13 (NAB) wrote:12 Here is what sustains the holy ones who keep God's
commandments and their faith in Jesus.
13 I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: Blessed
are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," said the
Spirit, "let them find rest from their labors, for their works
accompany them."
Phil 2:12-13 (NAB) wrote:12 So then, my beloved, obedient as you have always been,
not only when I am present but all the more now when I am
absent, work out your salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For God is the one who, for his good purpose, works in
you both to desire and to work.
John 5:28-29 (NAB) wrote:28 Do not be amazed at this, because the hour is coming
in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice
29 and will come out, those who have done good deeds to
the resurrection of life, but those who have done wicked deeds
to the resurrection of condemnation.
John 5:25-29 (RSV) wrote:25 "Truly, truly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live. 26 For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself, 27 and has given him authority to execute judgment, because he is the Son of man. 28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice 29 and come forth, those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.
Jas 3:13-18 (NAB) wrote:13 Who among you is wise and understanding? Let him show
his works by a good life in the humility that comes from
wisdom.
14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition
in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth.
15 Wisdom of this kind does not come down from above but
is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.
16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there
is disorder and every foul practice.
17 But the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then
peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits,
without inconstancy or insincerity.
18 And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace for
those who cultivate peace.
Jas 2:14, 17-20 (NAB) wrote:14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has
faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? ...
... 17 So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is
dead.
18 Indeed someone might say, "You have faith and I have
works." Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will
demonstrate my faith to you from my works.
19 You believe that God is one. You do well. Even the
demons believe that and tremble.
20 Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without
works is useless?
This next one is similar to the one I have in my previous post from Romans.
"That means that when we do good works, it is not out of our own power but that by the power and GRACE of God." God has prepared everything in advance... He's God, He can do anything! And He prepared those
good works for us so that we can live them out. So if you think you don't have to do good works, then you are sadly mistaken and you disregard the good works of God that He has done for you.
Eph 2:8-10 (NAB) wrote:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this
is not from you; it is the gift of God;
9 it is not from works, so no one may boast.
10 For we are his handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for
the good works that God has prepared in advance, that we should
live in them.
