ArchivedThe Latter Rain of the Last Days: Now or Future? :: Re: AineoRe: Aineo Now you are trying to twist my words. I said "for the sake of the Apostles," as in their ministry, not their persons. If you actually read the list of items #1 through #3, you would see that. You are focusing in on select words and phrases while neglecting the context of the passage. If you look at Acts 10:36, Peter told the Gentile crowd that the Gospel was for Israel. However, in Acts 10:44, the Spirit came upon the Gentiles listening to Peter's speech. Peter was astonished that this happened to the Gentiles (verse 45), thereby causing him to realize that baptism should not be kept from them (verse 47). Therefore, in Acts 10, the Spirit was given or "poured out" on the Gentile crowd to show the Apostles, namely Peter, that (a) the Gospel, (b) baptism, and (c) the Baptism of the Spirit were for the Gentiles as well. Now I ask you: Why is not the Spirit "poured out" on all Church Age Gentile converts within Scripture? Does this not violate your interpretation of Acts 10:45? And by what basis do you make this claim?
These articles do not address the key issues at hand. Namely: 1) Joel 2:28-32 is about Israel during the end of the Tribulation. 2) There is a difference between the Baptism of the Spirit and specific manifestations of the Spirit. 3) There are different types of "gifts." Salvation is a gift (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 6:23, etc.), receiving the Spirit is a gift (Acts 1:4-5, Acts 2:37-39, etc.), and abilities given by the Spirit are gifts (Romans 12:5-8, 1 Corinthians 7:7, 1 Corinthians 12, etc.). 4) Even though the Spirit was "poured out" on the 120 believers of Acts 2, it is unknown if the same even occurred to all other believers (ref. 1 Corinthians 15:6). 5) Not all post-Pentecost converts have the Spirit "poured out" on them, like in Acts 2:1-11, Acts 10:45-37, or Acts 19:1-7. 6) All instances of the Spirit being "poured out" occur in connection with the ministry of the Apostles. Now instead of trying to divert the thread with copy and pasted materials of dull weight, I kindly ask that you please address these issues. Otherwise, please be intellectually honest enough to admit you have no answer.
If all you are doing to do is engage in ad hominem attacks against the opposing viewpoint, then I will excuse myself from this discussion. You are venting your frustration in improper ways. The choice is yours. |
