ArchivedThe Latter Rain of the Last Days: Now or Future? :: Re: AineoRe: Aineo That is the point. This proves that the Baptism of the Spirit is not inherently linked to any specific manifestations of the Spirit. Within Hebrew culture, servants are considered part of the household they serve. In conjunction with this, when God blesses the head of a household, that blessing effects the whole household. Thus, this verse is showing that the "pouring out" of the Spirit will effect entire Jewish households. And as I have previously stated, there are different "gifts." Salvation is a gift (Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 6:23, etc.), receiving the Spirit is a gift (Acts 1:4-5, Acts 2:37-39, etc.), and abilities given by the Spirit are gifts (Romans 12:5-8, 1 Corinthians 7:7, 1 Corinthians 12, etc.). Thus, when speaking about gifts from God, one must be careful not to equivocate different types. How do you know this? Because I disagree with you? The problem with your interpretation of Acts 2:16-21 is that you focus on specific words and phrases while neglecting the context. Within Scripture, every instance of the Spirit being "poured out" during the Church Age was done for the sake of the Apostles. 1) In Acts 2:1-13, the Spirit was "poured out" on the 120 believers of the "Upper Room" for the sake of the testimony the Apostles would give. 2) In Acts 10:45-47, the Spirit was "poured out" on the Gentile crowd to show the Apostles that the Gentiles could receive the Spirit as well. 3) And in Acts 19:1-7, the Spirit was "poured out" on 12 people after Paul laid hands on them. However, apart from the Apostles, there is no recorded instance of the Spirit being "poured out" on anyone else. This violates the logic of your position, which necessitates that the Spirit be "poured out" on all believers. No. This fact is plainly seen when one observes that every instance, within the Church Age, of the Spirit being "poured out" is done (a) in connection with the Apostles and (b) for the sake of the Apostles' ministry. I fail to see the point that you are trying to make here. Are you trying to conceptually equate the ministry of the Apostles with the ministry of other disciples? |
