ArchivedThe Latter Rain of the Last Days: Now or Future? :: Re: AineoRe: Aineo Yes. Joel 2:28-32 is clearly addressed to the national remnant of Israel, which exists at the end of the Tribulation. With that in mind, notice that the Spirit was not poured out on all the flesh of Israel when Acts 2:1-4 took place. Instead, the Spirit was simply poured out to the 12 Apostles. Acts 2:16 [NIV] No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: Yes, at Pentecost, the Spirit was poured out on the Apostles, not simply given to them by the Baptism of the Spirit. This is evidenced by how people heard a violent sound (verse 2), images appeared over their heads (verse 3), and the Spirit filled them while causing them to speak in tongues (verse 4). However, the Apostles were the only Church Age saints to be given the Spirit in this manner. To assert otherwise is to get into the realm of unbiblical charismatic thinking, such as in the assumption that speaking in tongues is an evidence of salvation. Because Peter is using what happened at Pentecost to illustrate what will happen to all of Israel in the future. The national salvation of Israel will result in such events, thereby implying that the unbelieving Jews should reconsider verbally attacking what took place there. - - - - - - - - - - Therefore, we see that what happened in Acts 2 has a duel purpose: 1) Beginning the Church Age by enabling the Apostles. 2) Providing an example of the future of Israel, which serves as a testimony to the unbelieving Jews. |
