ArchivedIdolatry in Christianity".... He is considered by the Catholic church to be its greatest theologian and one of the thirty-three Doctors of the Church...." -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Aquinas ".... Aquinas had made a remarkable impression on all who knew him. He was placed on a level with the saints Paul and Augustine, receiving the title doctor angelicus. In 1319, the Roman Catholic Church began investigations preliminary to Aquinas's canonization; on July 18, 1323, he was pronounced a saint by Pope John XXII at Avignon. At the Council of Trent only 2 books were placed on the Altar, the Bible and St. Thomas Aquinas' Summa Theologica." -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Aquinas And where does the catholic church alter the gospel in so much that salvation gets unatainable? if you agree that that doesn't happen, then we don't have anything to discuss... i know the common disagreeances with protestant groups about Mary, 'idolatry', work by faith or deeds, saints and purgatory... al of wich are mainly conclusions drawn by catholics and (partly) eastern orthodox from early christian tradition... and what's wrong about the people who were teached by the apostles? and the apostles disciples? don't you think they would know more about christianity then let's say Martin Luther... ? Sure you could say, the bible contains all neccerary knowledge needed... but if you really had to know a context of a certain verse, would you rather ask Martin Luther or a early church father? It's merely for the sake of making a most accurate christian doctrine as possible... that you depend upon such early sources. I don't agree with everything catholics claim either, i don't neccerarly agree that the deuteronomical apocrypha's additions of the bible were neccerary, neither do i think that these addition threatens the message of the bible. I have no problem with the issue good deeds or faith, when you can do them both... it's all so simple really. And this goes for every dispute between denominations, wich can be so petty. It's far more worse for example to proudly change a doctrine into a contradiction and professing it as truth, as in making Jesus an all loving hippy, who all the sudden changes the laws of the old covenant and say homosexuality isn't a sin anymore... but i don't blame protestants for that See i am as much a catholic as i am a protestant or a eastern orthodox christian... if a catholic would attack protestantism i would defend it equally. |
