NAS
These are only a few of the Scriptures that refer us to God's word. Tradition is mentioned in a positive way only 4 times: 2 Thess 3:6-7
6 Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you keep aloof from every brother who leads an unruly life and not according to the tradition which you received from us.

2 Thess 2:15
15 So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us. NAS
One of these is Paul addressing the traditions of the Jews, which would be the Talmud and the Mishnah, the traditions Jesus taught against. Isaiah 29:13
13 Then the Lord said,
"Because this people draw near with their words
And honor Me with their lip service,

And their reverence for Me consists of tradition learned by rote,

3(For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they carefully wash their hands, thus observing the traditions of the elders; 4 and when they come from the market place, they do not eat unless they cleanse themselves; and there are many other things which they have received in order to observe, such as the washing of cups and pitchers and copper pots.) NAS
So here is the question; how can we know if the traditions taught by men are not traditions of men and are in fact traditions taught by the Apostles? In 2 Thessalonians 2:15 Paul writes So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, whether by word of mouth or by letter from us. NAS
There are many Catholic traditions that contradict the inspired word of God such as purgatory, the immaculate conception, and the assumption to name a few. However, we have covered them all without reaching any sort of agreement on their validity so why go over the same ground again?
The fact is the Bible refers to Scripture more often than it does to tradition and in fact warns us against the traditions of men.
Christmas and Easter are traditionally observed on days that do not correspond to early church practice. Constantine moved the observation of Christmas to Dec 25 to placate pagans who refused to give up their annual celebration to the sun god. The name Easter is derived from a pagan goddess. Good Friday cannot possibly be the day Christ was crucified since He would not have spent 3 days and 3 nights in the grave as He prophesied He would.
Christianity has its foundation and roots in Judaism, not Greek religious philosophy so any tradition of men that voids or violates Jewish thought should be viewed with jaundiced eyes.
Would Paul have elevated a woman to a position of authority in any church he founded? Peter was married, as were most, if not all the original 12 Apostles. Paul’s written qualifications for a bishop included being “the husband of one wife”. Scripture tells us that Jesus’ death on the cross atoned for all our sins, and Paul writes that all debts and decrees against us have been cancelled. Paul also writes that when we are raised we are raised in an incorruptible body, which eliminates the need for purgatory. The Greek in both Matthew and 1 Corinthians where the Lord’s Supper is discussed indicates the bread and wine are symbols not the actual body and blood of Christ so that shows transubstantiation to be false. In fact transubstantiation, the immaculate conception, the assumption, and other RCC traditions can be shown to be direct imports from Mithraism and other pagan practices and reflect a Greek not a Jewish religious mindset. If all these traditions are direct from the Apostles why did it take up to 1900 years for them to be declared dogma? Purgatory was not made doctrine until after the Protestant reformation. Indulgences, the rosary, and many other “traditions” are simply not valid “traditions” that come from God.
