Religious Cults & False Prophets~ Discussions and DebatesOneness debateAnd that is exactly why I said, In your defense, this doesn't necessarily mean He is the one true God. But in light of your argument, he is called "God" as you said He's never referred to as "God". "Immanuel" (God with us) and "Yehoshua" (Jehovah is Salvation) are also both strong indications that He is God (especially in light of the rest of scripture). But I was demonstrating through scripture that He is called "God" in the Old Testament, when you said He was not. While this is not nearly the only Old Testament reference that provides the deity of Jesus, it is one that clearly calls Jesus "God". As I knew you would discount it as saying this term (el) is used for angels and mighty men, I was perfectly clear "In your defense, this doesn't necessarily mean He is the one true God. I can demonstrate that He is the YHWH of the Old Testament in many different ways through scripture. But, that wasn't my purpose for using Isaiah 9:6... Again, you aren't going to catch me with any surprises, I've heard probably every argument against the biblical doctrine of the deity of Jesus. Edit: And as far as your reference to the old testament Joshua. There is a clear difference between the two. One could make the argument you made, if nothing was said, on why Jesus was called "Jesus". But, the reason He is called "Jesus" (Yehoshua) is what is so important (especially in light of the rest of scripture). "You shall call Him Jesus (Jehovah is salvation) for HE SHALL SAVE HIS PEOPLE FROM THEIR SINS" Who is saving people from their sins? BTW - I have no idea what you are talking about in your middle paragraph. |
