Religious Cults & False Prophets~ Discussions and DebatesThe Bible Defines, What Sin is...Doug, there is no doubt that as Christians we are engaged in a spiritual battle. However, you have ripped one phrase out of Romans and developed a theology that ignores the context of what Paul wrote. Lets let the Bible explain the Bible instead of using personal experiences, which we all can appeal to. In Leviticus we read: Abraham was married to his sister and Jacob (who was renamed Israel) married sisters. Did Abraham and Jacob transgress the law, which was given to Moses 450 years after Abraham? No. So why is incest a sin? Because with the Law of Moses the law of sin that wages a war with our mind came into existence. Now lets move to the NT. Under the Law of Moses a person’s immoral thoughts did not require a sin sacrifice, however in Christianity Jesus made our thoughts equal to the act. Therefore lust is adultery, anger is murder, and divorce and remarriage for any reason is adultery. Is the Law the domain of Satan? I will repeat the answer is no since Paul also wrote the Law is good (Romans 7:16). You appeal to James where he wrote “resist Satan and he will flee from you”, which is only part of what James wrote since he also wrote that we sin when we (not Satan) give into our own inherent lusts. Can Satan tempt us? Yes, but not all temptation is Satanic in origin. Now you also appealed to your post 9/11 vision, so lets compare your vision to that of Constantine since the two have real parallels. Constantine’s vision resulted in the cessation of the persecution of Christians in 313 Ad. However Constantine did not seek Biblical truth he sought the council of men who through personal interpretations of Scripture along with their cultural biases introduced heresies into Christianity that deny Biblical truth starting in 325 AD at the First Council of Nicea. These men did not have a solid foundation in the Hebraic roots of Christianity and through “personal revelation” have led many astray. Now I have asked you for Biblical proof that the law is Satan’s domain, which you still have not posted. You have alluded to Satan’s authority over “principalities” and etc. in an attempt to prove your point. However what does the word “principalities” mean? Satan is the head of his own kingdom of demons who have the power to tempt men, but do not have the power to force men to do anything unless they possess a man and not all men are demon possessed. “Principalities” can also refer to secular governments that are controlled by religious and secular groups and/or philosophies. We are told that Satan is the god and prince of this world and as such has controlled men who have committed atrocities against their fellow man. Hitler and Stalin are good modern examples as are those who control Arab terrorists who kill in the name women and children in the name of Allah and the advancement of Islam. Now read Ephesians 2:1-3 carefully since Paul lists three powers we need to guard against. The power of this world, which is Satan’s domain; the power of the prince of the air, which is another reference to Satan; and the lusts of the flesh, which are under our control and are not always the domain of Satan. BTW, I do use lexicons and Bible dictionaries. I also resort to commentaries when I need to understand Hebrew idioms that were and still are misunderstood by gentiles. However, there is a vast gulf between searching lexicons and dictionaries in an attempt to develop a false doctrine and searching lexicons and dictionaries to gain understanding of God’s truth. When men appeal to personal revelations they deny Jesus’ words in John 17:17 “Sanctify them in truth, your word is truth”. |
