Trinity DebateThe importance of PurgatoryNot all of us are fully refined in this life. Purgatory is the place where the job is finished. Make sense? You've drawn your own conclusions with Matthew 5:26. The early Old Testament was taken from the Jews of that period who had books like Maccabees and Wisdom. That doesn't mean these books are heretical if Jews of Martin Luther's time lacked them. The Protestant OT is taken from later Jews of Martin Luther's time. Also, the book is alien to you so naturally things in it wouldn't seem Biblical. This is a valid book in my canon which predates yours considerably. The Jews in Maccabees totally despised the Greeks who paganized their temples. There's no fear in my mind of these Jews actually adopting Hellenistic like ideas. It predates Vatican II I'm pretty sure. Anyways, what do you think happens to the many people who have just never heard of Jesus? Or have an incomplete idea of the Christian Jesus because of a lack of missionary outreach? Or overemotional people who don't think and commit suide? There's no reincarnation or anything like that. They go somewhere afterlife. If you see things like I do, it is a necessity. It does have some ground in Scripture. |
