ArchivedNIV Version changes day star to morning star!Yes, and that is a matter of honest disagreement between well qualified scholars. On one side of this debate, yes. The KJVOs seem to have a mantra that says "If it ain't KJV it ain't bible." However, that doesn't give the rest of us license to reverse the mantra to "If it is KJV it isn't bible." I have less respect for the NIV than I do for many of the other newer versions, especially the ASV/NASV and the ESV, which are excellent translations of their underlying textform. However, I would question the validity of the "many translation errors" and "known spurious passages." In virtually every case where there is a major difference between, say, the NASB and the KJV, it can be shown that the difference is due to differences in the source text (or, in the case of the Old Testament how the translators viewed the qere/ketive pairs). There are a couple of places where the KJV follows no presently known manuscript or text, but those are few. Scrivener says only about half a dozen. |
