ArchivedChristadelphianismSo what is plainly taught in scripture? Alone:{monos} (without a companion), ALONE. And Jesus seeing their faith said to the paralytic, "My son, your sins are forgiven." But there were some of the scribes sitting there and reasoning in their hearts, "Why does this man speak that way? He is blaspheming; who can forgive sins but God alone?" And immediately Jesus, aware in His spirit that they were reasoning that way within themselves, said to them, "Why are you reasoning about these things in your hearts? "Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven’; or to say, ‘Arise, and take up your pallet and walk’? "But in order that (you may know) that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" "Who can forgive sins except one, God?" Mark 2:7 Jesus had forgiven sins in a manner which was obviously different from the what the Levitical priests had commonly practiced, this is why the Jews had called it blasphemy. The forgiveness of sins was practiced by Levitical priests according to the Law of Moses. (Lev 4:20) It is the priest who makes the atonement for them so that their sins may be forgiven." Levitical Priests pronounced forgiveness of sins quite commonly every day. One must understand that the atonement in no way absolved sin because this is the Function in which a Deity can only perform. The jews clearly understood that Jesus was personally claiming His direct power to forgive sins, which has never been done before by ANY MAN. Jesus had done what no jewish priest could ever do or make, which is that He Jesus had the power to forgive sins, or if you will the power of absolution. Neither Christian nor Jew can ever have the power to forgive sins in the mind of God. This is why they had accused Jesus of blasphemy. Jesus knew full well that they were reasoning that way within themselves". That is why Jesus answered "in order that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins" this was done to strengthen the current Jewish thought that only God Himself could forgive sins. Isaiah 43:25 establishes this current Jewish thought to be error proof.
Which is to say that If you forgive the sins of any, their sins have (already) been forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they have (already) been retained." By leaning on your own understanding and Gnostic interpretations you fall victim to deceit. I believe that it's time to remove those shades. God Bless! |
