Re: mathew
James wrote:" 'If you wish to enter into life keep the commadments' He asked him (christ) which ones. And Jesus replied 'you shall not kill, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and mother. you shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"
Mathew 19:17
condemning Homosexuality isnt one of christs commandments. youll also notice that he doesnt say obey ancient mosaic law. Aineo, I see you choose to ignore the gospels because it doesnt mesh with what you want to belive its your choice and your problem.
Linda I have no interest in repsonding to someone who thinks Im worse than reverend phelps and very little respect for this person. You use your apology as a way to re-state your insult. i dont feel you have contributed much other than smirkingppy faces. Ill respond when you use real arguments, not meaningless smug superiority.
Why stop there, finish the quote:
Matt 19:16-22
17 And He said to him, "Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good; but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments." 18 He said to Him, "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; 19 Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself. " 20 The young man said to Him, "All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?" 21 Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me." 22 But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieved; for he was one who owned much property. NAS
Jesus was emphasizing what he said of the Pharisees, and the young man's reaction shows that men who seek righteousness by human means will always fail. Your righteousness is found in Christ, not works of the law (btw, this teaching is found in Paul's letters, letters you discount and choose to ignore). Did you notice that Jesus quoted only 5 of the 10 commandments, the 5 that are the easiest to keep? The one commandment that defeats us all is "You shall not covet." The poor covet wealth, the rich covet more wealth and/or power, etc. Have you read or studied Romans 7? Works of the law will not get you into heaven but works of the flesh will keep you out! Paul, ah that man again, teaches this:
Gal 2:16
16 nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we may be justified by faith in Christ, and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law shall no flesh be justified. NAS
Paul states it another way by comparing the fruits of the Spirit with the fruits of the flesh:
Gal 5:16-24
16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you just as I have forewarned you that those who practice such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. NAS
Have you studied the Bible enough to understand that some of God's promises are conditional? His love is unconditional, but so is His judgment. Take Paul's teaching on fruit,
if you are lead by the Spirit, is the condition,
you are not under the Law is the promise.
i dont feel you have contributed much other than smirkingppy faces. Ill respond when you use real arguments, not meaningless smug superiority.
You can't respond without your snide little digs can you? You want respect then give it; respect is earned. And what would you call your replies? They are just as smug and your air of superiority in understanding Christ’s teachings doesn’t advance your side of this debate. You keep quoting from Matthew, have you gotten into the other Gospels? John is considered by even secular Greek scholars to be the most beautiful book ever written, and BTW, Job is considered the oldest book every written.
This constant debate based on an argument of silence is not going to convince me your position is correct. Show me where Jesus affirmed gay relationships in the same manner He affirmed heterosexual marriage and you will change my position. You are building your whole theology around "love your neighbor" and I am building mine around "love the Lord your God with
all your heart, soul, and mind" and "love your neighbor as yourself" in that order, the same order Jesus taught. Or do you deny this?
