Occult.. it's true power source? The Right Wing church has perverted christsI am not sure what Bible translations you are using since I have never seen a translation of Corinthians that uses your terminology. The two words the NAS lumps into homosexuality are "arsenokoites", which does not appear in classical Greek, and "malakos", which can mean catamite. A catamite was the passive partner is male/male sex and could also be a male prostitute as well as a kept boy. "Arsen" and "koites" are used in the Septuagint translation of the Hebrew Scripture at Lev 18:22 and since educated Jews used the Septuagint and not the Hebrew Torah Paul's readers could have understood Paul's wiriting to mean homosexuality. What Paul is teaching here is that if you love your neighbor you will not covet his possession, kill him, steal from him, or violate the provisions of the law. One of the provisions of the law is Lev 18:22 'You shall not lie with a male as one lies with a female; it is an abomination. NAS So if you love your neighbor you will not engage in same-sex relationships. You are establishing my side of this debate. You mentioned that in Timothy Paul says for slaves to obey their masters. Since you brought up Romans 13: Slaves were owned as a result of Roman law. So Paul is instructing Christian's who are slaves to obey their masters in accordance with the governing authority. A slave who disobeyed or ran away could be executed. So Paul's admonition was for the slaves good. Corinthians 13 is the Bible's definition of love. You don't see anything about sexual relationships in this chapter. Leviticus is the morality code for the Jews. Immorality in Jewish society carried various penalties. Homosexual sex and adultery both carried the death penalty. The Old Testament or a better translation would be the Old Covenant is replace by the New Covenant. The New Covenant has a doctrine we call grace. What this means for us as Christian's is that the penalties of the law are delayed until judgment. You have the opportunity while you live to repent of immorality and thereby avoid the death penalty. So to use the OT as a tutor of what God expects of mankind in not anti-Christian nor does it violate Christ's commandment to love your neighbor. If you see your neighbor dead drunk and getting into his car is it love to let him drive drunk? If you see your neighbor playing with fire and about to set himself on fire do you sit passively by or because of your love do you attempt to stop him from doing himself damage? If you see your neighbor getting involved with another neighbors wife do you sit by and let him commit adultery and damage one or two marital relationships? Or do you think we should also allow adultery because Lev 18:20 says: 'And you shall not have intercourse with your neighbor's wife, to be defiled with her. NAS (This is also one of the Ten Commandments) How about the Ten Commandments? You shall not lie. Should we allow perjury because it is condemned only in the Law? If you have read your Bible you know that the dietary laws were repealed by God when Peter was sent to Cornelius and that the Christian leaders of the church in Jerusalem admonished gentile believers to refrain only from blood, idols, and fornication. What is fornication? Sex outside a marriage relationship. So Luke when he wrote Acts is stating homosexual sex is wrong. James you don't have a full or complete understanding of the Bible. It seems the only part you choose to accept is the 4 gospels, which contain the words of Christ. However, what Christ taught is that love of God and love of neighbor are the very foundation of the law and the prophets so to annul one aspect of the law by human reasoning is to show lack of love for both God and neighbor. Real love does not accept behavior that will destroy your neighbor. If you have bothered to study the OT you will find that God emphasizes purity of lifestyle. This accounts for the purity of cloth, and many other laws we don't concern ourselves with since Christ is the only purity we need. The OT also places a lot of emphasis on blood. Have you read Hebrews? "There is no remission of sin without the shedding of blood." You understanding of the Bible needs to be improved before you jump to the conclusions you have brought to this board. |
