ArchivedENOUGH!!Do you really think our culture "promotes" homosexuality? Regardless, I never said that we weren't the most gay-friendly culture to date. I don't know one way or the other. All I object to is the notion that history, as a whole, has found homosexuality to be "reprehensible." From the American Indian tribes who honored feminine gay men and/or transsexual women (or something in-between -- I haven't read up on it, and it's a pretty blurry area to begin with) to, yes, some of the ancient Greeks, I believe there are enough exceptions to that "rule" to demonstrate that it's nothing of the kind. But if you think a mere majority opinion is enough, then: "History has found women to be inferior to men." Therefore, women should continue to be legally inferior to men... no, I don't think so. As I've said before, "that's the way it's always been" is a woefully insufficient justification for prejudice and discrimination. Mm... perhaps. But I think Lewis could have made a good case for any set of religious beliefs he had come to believe in. Having accepted the tenants of Christianity, he used his intellect not to tear them apart, but to explain them in a way that made sense to him. And I think that he went fairly far from the Bible in doing so, even if he did use it as a basis. Good. Sorry to jump to conclusions, or at least in their general direction... the last board I was a regular on has made me paranoid, I think. And I should note that I'd be happy to work for any Christian who would not object to employing me, just as I'm presently happy to live under the roof of a Christian landlord, with a Christian housemate. Again, I'm ambivalent. It's all very well and good for me to say "fine by me." I have a job. And I don't have to have worry about losing my job for coming out -- which would presumably be much more likely than being refused employment. I certainly don't have to worry about being unemployable short of lying or otherwise deceiving my employers, as some people probably do. But I won't argue it. So, about about my other point? Do you think the government has a right to tell people who they should or should not marry? |
