ArchivedOneness, Trinity debate!Okay, lets start from the beginning. Through out the OT God is referred to by many names. Prior to Moses’ call to return to Egypt and lead the Hebrews to the Promised Land the names used for God always begin with “el”. In reality these “names” are titles or designations of God’s nature and character. In Exodus Moses asks ‘elohiym: Here we are introduced to God’s covenant name used by the Hebrew’s YHWH, which is considered to holy to verbalize or pronounce by the Jews. In the English translations of the Bible YHWY is always translated LORD (all caps) to distinguish the Hebrew ‘adonay (lord). In Isaiah 7 we are told the name of the coming Son of God. OT:6005 `Immanuw'el -- Immanuel = "God with us" or "with us is God" the symbolic and prophetic name of the Messiah (the Christ), prophesying that He would be born of a virgin and would be `God with us' (from The Online Bible Thayer's Greek Lexicon and Brown Driver & Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, Copyright (c)1993, Woodside Bible Fellowship, Ontario, Canada. Licensed from the Institute for Creation Research.)[/quote]Mary named her first born son Jesus. So is God’s name God is with us? Or is Jesus the name of His Son? The Son takes the name of the father not the other way around. Using Hebrew custom Jesus’ name is Joshosua bar Joseph, or God is with us the son of Joseph. However we are not finished with the names of God and Jesus. Those who overcome will have 3 names written on them; the name of God, the name of the new Jerusalem, and the new name of Jesus the Christ. God’s name is not Jesus and Jesus’ name in eternity will be a name that has not been revealed to mankind. Is God’s name Jesus? Not according to the Bible. |
