Religious Cults & False Prophets~ Discussions and DebatesRomans 14Endurance wrote:1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. 2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.
So far he is comparing two brother's. One who is weak in faith (the vegetarian) and the one who is not (who eats meat), for he eats all things (herbs and meats).
3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him. 4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.
He goes on to tell them that the vegetarian should not condemn the one who is not and vice-versa. And continues that God has accepted Him. And GOd can make him stand or fall. For example:
Daniel 1:10 - And the prince of the eunuchs said unto Daniel, I fear my lord the king, who hath appointed your meat and your drink: for why should he see your faces worse liking than the children which are of your sort? then shall ye make me endanger my head to the king.
Daniel had told the eunuch that he didn't want the meat, but the eunuch thought it would make him slim and weak, and the eunuch didn't want to be punished because of it.
verse 15- And at the end of ten days, their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all which did eat portions of the kings meat.
Surely God is able to make him stand.
5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. 6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
I'm not positive about what he means by the term "esteemeth one day." It could be refering to holidays, celebrations, worship, etc. It couldn't be talking about the Sabbath though because a man cannot regard everyday as a day of rest. How could he provide for his family? How would he eat? How would he survive if he never works? And continues he that eat, eats and give glory to God for what he partakes of. Keep in mind, he's talking about two people, one who's a vegetarian and one who eats all things (herbs and meats).
This is from you opening post. Chapter 14 is actually part of a teaching that starts in Romans 8 so by isolating just this one chapter you have taken it out of context of what Paul is teaching. In Romans 8 Paul writes: Romans 8:1-11
8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 in order that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, 7 because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so; 8 and those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. 10 And if Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who indwells you. Your problem is you refuse to use study aids so you can understand the Old English used in an out of date translations that has many translation errors. God endowed us with common sense and the Holy Spirit has given some men the gift of teaching. You really should avail yourself of what those teachers teach.
