Alpha,
The problem with this lack of brotherhood is that it is a symptom of our "weakness". As men, we are ashamed that our children are being influenced by the world in ways we know are wrong. We are ashamed that we can do nothing but shake our heads when adolescent kids act disrespectfully to their elders in public or act disrespectfully at school to their teachers. We are ashamed that there is pretty much nothing we can do about all these things within the confines of Christianity.
Our culture is in shambles because Christianity provides such little practical guidance. Christians pretend that all of this guidance can be provided by the Holy Spirit. Take a look at our despicable American culture and take a look at the divorce rate among Christians. Is the Holy Spirit really providing enough guidance for this country where Christianity has had free reign for over 200 years?
Marriage survived within Christianity before the industrial age only because of the natural restraints of the age. Once industrialization began to provide challenges to the structure of the family, Christianity seemed to provide few answers.
So that is how I have felt for many years in men's Christian groups as we have talked about our marriages and society's woes. All we can seem to agree on is that stuff is a big mess and we will just have to keep on praying hoping for a breakthrough. Sure, there are small victories from time to time, but by and large, we are losing the "war".
So perhaps this is why I am drawn to a faith that seems to have, not just a few, but lots of answers for our culture's woes for why on earth would God fail to give the people he created enough guidance to make it past the agricultural age?
