Christian/Muslim ThreadsScientif errors in the Koran: Shooting stars and the devilsHi H20, I haven't paid any attention to the exact wording of the above translation and your adjustments are not significant to my argument. 037.006 YUSUFALI: We have indeed decked the lower heaven with beauty (in) the stars,- PICKTHAL: Lo! We have adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the planets; SHAKIR: Surely We have adorned the nearest heaven with an adornment, the stars, 037.007 YUSUFALI: (For beauty) and for guard against all obstinate rebellious evil spirits, PICKTHAL: With security from every froward devil. SHAKIR: And (there is) a safeguard against every rebellious Shaitan. 037.008 YUSUFALI: (So) they should not strain their ears in the direction of the Exalted Assembly but be cast away from every side, PICKTHAL: They cannot listen to the Highest Chiefs for they are pelted from every side, SHAKIR: They cannot listen to the exalted assembly and they are thrown at from every side, The top to suras are quite clear as regards the stars purpose. One of them is as a guard for evil spirits. The final sura makes it clear as a consequence of trying to listen they will be forced away so that they unable to do so. You are say " Missles " is translated from the Arabic word "rujoom" which is the plural of "rajm" that means stoning. If you wish you can google the word "rajm" it is the term used for stoning adulterers in Islam and Judaism N0 translation agrees with you that the word means stoning. All the translations I have read including the one above decribe the word as pelted, thrown at, attaked etc. Stoning is just one example of this, clarly the word does not literally mean stoning. One should not make up meaning for words just to strengthen their argument. You then make reference to the piercing flame. As mention before shihaabun thaaqib ie a piercing flame is ambigious which according to what we have presented could not be refering to meteorites but some other type of piercing bright flame of light that is fast enough to catch a Jinn. This is understood by us to refer to rays of the sun or other suns ie stars that are deadly out side the earth's atmosphere. First of all I don't know how you come to these conclusions. Fist of all you assume that the piercing flame is not referring to meteorites as a result of me mentioning they don't light up. Let's see the evidence against this. 086.003 YUSUFALI: (It is) the Star of piercing brightness;- PICKTHAL: - The piercing Star! SHAKIR: The star of piercing brightness; The sura is clearly giving evidence that a star has a piercing brightness. Just like the piercing flame in this sura. 037.010 YUSUFALI: Except such as snatch away something by stealth, and they are pursued by a flaming fire, of piercing brightness. PICKTHAL: Save him who snatcheth a fragment, and there pursueth him a piercing flame. SHAKIR: Except him who snatches off but once, then there follows him a brightly shining flame. More evidence of meteorites and shootin stars in the hadeeth After the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) began his mission the situation changed. Allaah had the angels guard the lower reaches of the heavens carefully, and most of the Jinn were chased away with meteors and shooting stars. Allaah described this phenomena in the following Qur'anic statement made by one of the Jinn, "We (the Jinn) had sought out the heavens but found it filled with strong guardians and meteors. We used to sit on high places in order to listen, but whoever listens now finds a flame waiting for him."' Allaah also said, "And We have guarded it (the heavens) from every cursed devil, except the one who is able to snatch a hearing and, he is pursued by a brightly burning flame."(Surah al-Hijr 15:17) The Prophet said: "They (the Jinn) would pass the information back down until it reaches the lips of a magician fortune-teller. Sometimes a meteor would overtake them before they could pass it on. If they passed it on before being struck, they would add to it a hundred lies." (Al-Bukhari and Tirmidhi) There is plenty of evidence where meteorite and shooting stars are supposed to chase and hit jinns. But as mentioned before this can't be so, based on the fact their are no shooting stars and meteorite do not ignite till they reach the earths atmsphere. You also argue that jinns can travel incredible speeds even though the hadith syas otherwise. So how fast can jinns travel? You made reference to a sura which you claim is proof of Jinn achieving a certain speed. This alone doe not prove anything except they cover distances rapidly in comparison to humans.. As I mentioned before nothing travels faster than light, and it takes 8.6 years for light on a return journey. No fortune teller is going to wait that long. Even if they did nothing would ever catch them period. There is also nothing to stop a jinn avoiding a chasing flame all it has to do is move out of the way(it would be a game for them). As I mentioned before stars are billions of miles apart there is nothing to stop a jinn going through them. If star rays are so harmful to jinns none of them would ever have make it back, regardless rays are not a piercing flame. Although I know what is; a meteorite entering the earths atmosphere!! To conclude if me make the assumption that jinns travel at the speed of light or faster(contary to evidence) they will never be caught. Remember it still takes light over 8 years to make a return journey. If on the other hand they can be caught they would take housands of years to make the journey. This is a big contradiction. All the evidence points to meteorites/shooting stars being the piercing flame. Which ever way you look logically this makes no sense at all. regards Musti |
