ArchivedMuhammad - No MiraclesHi Omega, Yes it helps but probably not how you anticipated...this is the problem that I have with "Christian Scholars." Here are a group of people, who KNOW already what the islamic argument is, so they set out, in complete contravention to the scholarly code, to disprove what muslim scholars claim. So let's look at one quote (i'd do all of them but i have to go to work) Here, what is this scholar saying? I ask all of you to forget for just a moment your beliefs and analyze what this man is saying as a scholar of a particular subject..let me translate the scholarly speak if i may into normal everyday english: so it MUST be untrue because according to me it seems out of place "in context" and not support elsewhere. And since this term is never used for Jesus anywhere else then we are not to believe it BECAUSE I STARTED OUT THIS FARCICAL ACADEMIC EXERCISE ALREADY BELIEVING THAT JESUS IS THE PERIKLUTOS AND OF COURSE SINCE I AM A CHRISTIAN MY MIIND IS LIKE A RUSTY IRON DOOR THAT CAN'T BE OPENED. So because this "scholar" can't accept the words for the way they are written then he, and all scholars since the time this verse gave them trouble, had to have an alternate definition of what the word meant. And not coincidentally, this is exactly what muslims have been taught the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him is: He is the one who will intercede on behalf of not just those who followed him, but those who followed all of their prophets of their day beginning with Adam all the way to Jesus, peace upon him. And in the Quran Allah says that no one's intercession will be accepted except whom Allah permits. So whatever way you want to define parakletos,or these other charlatan scholars, it fits with what we have been told by Prophet Muhammad, pbuh. And if you want to use "speaks in our defense" instead of "praised one" then why or how is the Holy Spirit that entity? Because nowhere in the bible does it say that the Holy Spirit is our intercessor, Christians believe that its Jesus. And further if you are going to argue that this is where the Trinity comes in and Jesus really is the Holy Spirit...then why the need for the Holy Spirit...why would Jesus have not just said "I am the one who will be your defender." Why did he foretell or prophesy...but that's just me trying to be logical and rational i guess. But all this goes back to the fact that what these people are doing can hardly be called serious scholarship. I dont' care how long you went to school and how much you studied. When you are hell bent on destroying something, you stop at nothing, not even the untidyness of academic discipline, to prove your point. What's more interesting though would be to look at the history of the translation (or understanding) of this word. And then the fact remains that this is a greek term and not an aramaic term. So it wouldnt upset a muslim scholar too much, if the greek never turned out to mean what it says. Because you don't have the original. So everything you do is conjecture anyway. Imagine that, all you christians base your entire life and existence on a second hand source. 2 billion people in the world |
