ArchivedMuhammad - No MiraclesThis is a great observation Bushmaster, and I am glad you brought it up. One thing we need to all think about is the fact that none of us saw these miracles, the Creation of Adam and Eve...the Parting of the Red Sea, the Great Flood, David and Goliath, When God made the Moses staff into a serpent, etc etc etc, Jesus raising the dead, (may Allah's peace and blessings be on all His Messengers.) So what is the only thing we can really go by? The message. The reason I believe Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is the Message. The message he put forward was what, the basic one? There is no god except God and I am His Servant and Messenger. This was the message of Noah, of Moses, David, Solomon, John the Baptist, and even of Jesus himself, (peace be upon them all). This is why I believe Muhammad's message. Because he actually died with no wealth yet he was the ruler of a growing and expansive empire. He never asked anyone to worship him and indeed warned that it would be walking out of the religion. It has also led muslim scholars to conclude that the Buddha may well have been a prophet God because His message was teh same actually. But like so many religions, people begin to worship the man that brought it. But in buddha's teachings, he never tells or asks people to worship him. So it always must be the message. And if the message deviates, then one can be sure that something is wrong. And in my opinion, what is written about Jesus is a deviation of the message that every man of God that went before him said. Its a departure from the modus operandi of God. Because how did God work up to that time, how did He deal with Humanity? by sending Prophets and Messengers I will give you that to a degree, but we are talking about contradictions, where one 1 != 2. I thought this quite interesting when i first read it and compared. In Surah Ali Imran, (ch3) and in Surah Maryam (19) Maryam was visited by many Angels all throughout her period of devotion to God. In the narration in Surah 19 though Gabriel took the form of a man to tell her. This explains why in the verse she was uncomfortable and thought him to be an intruder whereas the angels that visited her she sought no such refure from them. And there also is no indication that they are actually the same story. In other words, they could be related as two different stories. In the story in chapter 3 the group of angels visiting her informed her of what was going to happen and in the story of chapter 19, a different time, it was Gabriel who, appearing in the form of a man told her what was going to happen. You will also find in the hadeeth, references to 70, 700, 70,000 for numbers of angels, amount of reward received for doing good deeds. And what is clear is that the numbering system is metaphorical and not literal. For instance, the bible also makes use of the 1,000 year number for days, forgot the verse, sorry. But if that's the case, it means the earth was created over 6,000 years. there are a sect of jews who beleive the earth is literally only 6,000 years old, btw. So clearly the timing issue you bring up is one of not literalness but of metaphorics. The 70 example sortof stood for infinity in the Arabic world at the time. Ok, you keep finding them and we will keep answering them, God willing. I feel though that even after we answer all of them, God willing, you will still refuse to believe. But oh well, its a good exercise. Maybe someone will read it and become inspired and question and come to Islam. forget all the books of the bible indeed. I like the Jesus in the Quran more, i believe that, it all goes back to the message. There is no god except God, The One. -Ismael |
