ArchivedQuestions about the BibleI'd like to move back a moment to something that Alpha said, because I feel he hit the nail on the head concerning what my beliefs are. This is what I call fanaticism. I consider fanatics to be the people that focus on the parts of the Bible that aren't important, those that divide us as a people. We can see quite clearly what parts divide us and what parts unite us. Homosexuality, abortion, religious tolerance, marriage. These are things that fanatics focus on by protesting clinics, advocating closer church/state, or blaming terrorism on Islam. Meanwhile, they forget to love their neighbor, to not judge anyone's character. People say they love homosexuals and hate the sin. But how can homosexuals ever feel loved by those that tell them, they believe their loving relationships to be abominations. How can atheists ever respect those that tell them they are detined for Hell, even while many of them work hard to create peace and prosperity in the world. These parts of the Bible may still be valid, but they pale in comparison to what's important. Jesus? No. Accepting Jesus as savior is not universal among religions. But what He taught is. Love. It has always been, and will always be love. So, along the lines of what you said, the opinions of people that preach the sinfulness of sex before marriage, or divorce, or non-Christianity mean nothing to me, because they do not have their priorities straight. Once people begin to respect the lifestyles of all human beings that love each other, then the opinions that are more culture specific and faction oriented can be addressed. Until then, these ideas of sin that are specific to Christianity are not important to me. Sorry. |
