Christian/Muslim ThreadsObservations on ChristianityShia in general are of course Muslims...But there are several branches in the shia line, some on apprently extreme edge...Sunnis fought against extreme interpretations or tried to prevent their spread... The Fatimids were of the 7-imam branch. Not all Fatimi rulers were like Al Hakim. Hakim was an extreme example. But after Hakim they tended to associate some Divinity to the Imams. Some Fatimid rulers were against this idea...but this belief gained root, before Salahaddin ousted the dynasty... The 12-imam shia in Iran does not associate Divinity to imams, but they think imams have the authority to make decisions (in God's name), and that they do not falter in their decisions and they are sinless. There is also zaydiyya branch...Although they think caliphate was Ali's right, they mostly do not revile Uthman and other ashab...They are closest shia branch to sunni. The extreme edge of seven-imam shia is still followed by Ismailis today. Their leader was hasan bin sabbah of hashashis (assasins). While he was fighting against Seljuks, he was in cooperation with the Fatimid King in Egypt. He also send envoys to Crusaders...He prohibited alcohol in his fortress but opium was abundant...and his fidais who were high with opium made many assasinations of Islamic leaders...
