ArchivedPriests referred to as FathersOh, really? Look at this statement you made before: Technically, you DID laugh at me. So you just contradicted yourself, my friend. About the "in your face" thing. That was just an example, Rome. We're on a internet Forum. That example was meant to point out had if I or someone else asked you IN PERSON. You said you laughed at this thread because of the question. So, does that mean if someone asks you the question IN PERSON, that you will laugh infront of them? No, I don't. I call him "dad". Or maybe you just don't understand at all. No offense. Have you ever confessed your sins to a priest, a man you call "Father"? Maybe you have, maybe you haven't. But I know Catholics do that, and you ARE a Catholic. Now, have you ever confessed your sins to your PARENT father? I think there's a difference between both. According to NO ONE. Just common sense. I assure you, Rome, I am not playing "linguistic games" with you. Yes, the verse DOES say to "call NO MAN your father" except the Father in heaven. So, why do you call your priests "Father" in the same way you would could call God your Father? I've already told you the difference. And YES, it is in the same way, because Catholics confess their sins to their so-called "Fathers". We shall see about that. But I understand you have nothing more to say on this matter. Oh, well... In addition: James Cardinal Gibbons and Rev. Mark Lyons are one in saying that the pope and their fellow priests are "spiritual fathers": "The Popes were not only devoted spiritual Fathers, but firm and valiant Governors." (James Cardinal Gibbons. The Faith of our Fathers. P. 13 Emphasis mine) "We priests set aside natural fatherhood to beget Christ at Mass and in the hearts of men...Our celibacy enables us to be spiritual father to our people." (Rev. Mark J. Lyons. Mary and the Priests (Meditations). P. 11, emphasis mine) But according to our Lord Jesus Christ, no person should be called as such because God alone is the one spiritual Father: "Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven." (Mt. 23:9 NKJV, emphasis mine) "In the case of our human fathers, they punished us and we respected them. How much more, then, should we submit to our spiritual Father and live!" (Heb. 12:9, Todays English Version, emphasis mine) |
