Chris, I am 61 years old and knew I was "different" before I was 13. I get tired of baby's like you who bemoan how homophobic Christians are today when in fact you are so heterophobic you have to blame others for your own lack of self-worth and self-respect.
I have been through the beginnings of gay activism and helped form not only chapters of what were called Gay Liberation Fronts, but gay churches. You have judged me and others for the last time on this board. I count among my friends some nationally known gay activists as well as some nationally known ex-gay married men. Both show more love and compassion for each other than you show for those you don't even know.
You attend a church but you apparently have never read the Bible and you cannot make a distinction between the Old and New Covenant.
You claim you respect liberal Christians who have denied God's truth because it is easier to go with the flow than stand for righteousness.
If you are truly interested in educating homophobic Christians then change your attitude since it is people like you that drive a wedge between both communities and are an impediment to open dialogue and understanding of both positions.
I was working on a page for my website where I addressed 6 gay teens who had committed suicide. Of the six one blamed Christians. 2 committed suicide because their older gay mentor molested them and so confused them they felt that if sex was the only thing gay men wanted they did not want to live. The other 3 did not blame Christians, they blamed the boys and girls at school who treated them like they were different.
If you actually took the time to research the roots of homophobia among high school and college age students you would have found that the little research done has shown that religion has little if anything to do with male aversion to gay men. PBS can a program where a university professor interviewed university students and the overwhelming reason for aversion to gay men was male students felt their masculinity is threatened by gay males. The majority of the students were not professing Christians.
The Netherlands study I referred to was done by Dutch mental health professionals in a country where gay unions are legal and so is homosexuality. Read it, you just might learn something.
