ArchivedGAY MARRIAGE<I>Any</I> society? That's a rather broad claim. The Romans are the obvious example, but didn't Rome fall <I>after</I> Christianity began to take root? If so, I'd guess that tolerance of homosexuality was at an all time low. I think you're missing my point. I believe that if there was a true "God's Word," it would be so accessible and so obviously true as to completely overwhelm all other religious beliefs -- and it would <I>not</I> result in the fragmentation of the religion based on it. It wouldn't <I>be</I> a matter of differing opinions. It would be an obvious truth, at least as widely accepted as, say, prevailing scientific theories. Arguing that "God's Word" was something other than "God's Word" would be rather like being in the Flat Earth Society. Most people wouldn't even bother arguing with you, once they'd established that, yes, you really did believe something so ridiculous. "God's Word" would need no human defenders. |
