If we are not to obey the Law and the Prophets, what is the purpose of teaching from them?
Let's look at Hebrews second chapter for a second.
Heb 2:12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.
Heb 2:13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
Heb 2:16 For verily he took not on him the nature of angels; but he took on him the seed of Abraham.
Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.
Heb 2:18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
It is clear that the author of Hebrews is talking about Yahshua. Now let's look at one of the prophecies he is teaching from.
Heb 2:13 And again, I will put my trust in him. And again, Behold I and the children which God hath given me.
Where is he getting this from?
Isa 8:18 Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.
So let's look at what this prophecy has to say about Him, Yahshua, and the children whom Yahweh has given Him (believers). And I will point out a few things.
Isa 8:13 Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.
Isa 8:14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Sanctify Yahweh and let Him be your fear (notice the qoute from Ecc at the end of this post because it comes back to this point). He will be for a santcuary for the believer but a stone of stumbling and a rock of offence to those who do not believe. We know that Yahshua is this stone of stumbling. Carrying on.
Isa 8:15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.
Isa 8:16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
What's this? Bind up the testimony (gospel) and seal the Law among my disciples. Whose disciples? Yahshua's disciples. So the Law is to be sealed among the disciples of Messiah.
Isa 8:17 And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
Isa 8:18 Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.
The believers are for signs and wonders in Israel from Yahweh.
Isa 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
And when they tell you to seek unto the people mentioned above, the question is asked, shouldn't a people seek God? Should one seeking the living go to the dead?
Now let us pause so that we can understand who the dead might be.
Mat 8:22 But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
Those who do not follow Yahweh, are the dead. They have no life in them.
Joh 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me,
though he were dead, yet shall he live:
Eph 2:1 And you hath he quickened,
who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Eph 2:5
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved
Moving on, I left off at this verse...
Isa 8:19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?
Two questions have been asked; should a person seek God and does one go to the dead for the living.
Isa 8:20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.
The answer given for these questions is that if they don't speak according to the Law and the testimoney (gospel), there is no light in them. It is not sufficient to speak according to one or the other. One must speak according to both or there is no light in them.
If there is no light in them, why should you follow the blind? If the blind follow the blind, they both fall into the ditch. Those in darkness cannot see. The truth is not with them lest they be in the light.
1Jo 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin
How can you have fellowship with Yahweh, if you follow those that Scriptures declare have no light?
Well, what is light? Yahshua, the Word made flesh is the light. Some people seem to forget that the Law of Yahweh
IS the Word. Do scriptures agree?
Pro 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
How can one have light, while he speaks and lives contrary to the light (Law)?
Psa 119:142 Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.
How can one be set free by the truth, while they walk and teach contrary to truth (the Law)? The truth shall set you free, Yahshua said. His Law is the Truth.
One will argue, as they always do, that Isaiah is not for us. If you go and read chapter 8 and 9, you will see that they are the same prophecy.
Isa 8:22 And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.
Isa 9:1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
As you see, 8:22 goes directly into 9:1. This is one prophecy and what do we have in 9:6? For unto us a child is born. This child is Yahshua, I'm sure all will agree. Now the author of Hebrews qoutes from this scripture in teaching the Gospel. Should we ignore what is being taught to us?
We see the stone of stumbling, which identifies Messiah in 8 and behold me and the children whom Yahweh has given me, which identifies Messiah, according the author of Hebrews, are given. 9:6 is also another scripture that shows these things deal with Yahshua and the children given to Him (the believers).
And we are warned that if they don't speak according to the Law and the Gospel, it is because there is no light in them. Why follow those who have no light?
It is clear that these things are for Christians. So the question is, if we are not to obey, why are we being taught from it?
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. (Yahweh?)
Mat 12:50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother
Psa 40:8 I delight to do thy will O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart, .
I delight to do thy will? O my God, thy law is within my heart?
Mar 7:6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
Mar 7:7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
If Solomon was a wise man, heed his words below and if not, continue in lawlessness.
Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
