ursus your asking to question your own faith on conditions wich are very vague and shallow... the faith of any theistic person in these forums is based upon studies and metaphysical questioning wich surpass this... and the only way we compare to other religions is by studying them as well. Wich is the most fair way to do. questions are thrown back and forward everyday regarding what if? and maybe that? and maybe this?
The afterlife as it is, is and will always be unknown territory, for all i know, maybe i diserve hell... and then what? you can't do nothing against or about what you do not control... too me any afterlife without Yehova as my God and saviour will be hell...
and true, Socrates his methodical questioning is the basic foundation of western philosophy but that is absurd to apply this to everything, for example:
as if Socrates would be eating chicken, and asking himself "is this really chicken?", "if i answer with yes, is it really truth?", "am i lying to myself?", "if i'm lying to myself am i telling the truth? because i know that i am lying"
Sometimes it's better to keep life simple instead of making it difficult in order to convince others that it is simple. just call a cat a cat and in this case a chicken a chicken
i've seen such neo-sophists on philosophy chatboards as well, everytime someone commes up with a good thought, some neo sophist interrupts and puts a question mark behind it, in so much that you can't have any decent conversation anymore about any subject without someone trying to be a smartass
