'Modern' cells need a different pressure within their cells than outside them and need cell membranes as a 'skin'. We now know that that these are not necessary for cells to exist. I have read about cells that can live WITHOUT a protective layer around them. I will search for the article and link it if you request so.
The fact it all boils down to is that - as Jovaro mentioned earlier - we know nothing about the 'first cell.' First cells did not need a cell-membrane (for sure) and might not have needed a lot of other things associated with modern single celled organisms.
