You could also have said, crocodiles, coelacanths, mosquitoes, etc. There is no conscious being that is stimulating evolution. The environment stimulates the process known as evolution. If life forms do not need to change to be successful, then why would they change? If there is nothing new to adapt to, there isn't going to be much change. We must on the other hand not forget that evolution can take place without being very visible. The digestive system of mosquitoes that lived off dinosaurblood might be completely different from the one we see today, in mosquitoes that feed off mammals. The internal muscle of a clam of today might be far more complex and specialised than that of its (in appearance identical) ancestors. |
