Tuppence, you say 'it takes a cell to make a cell.'
We see this tendency in cells today, but there is no proof it was always this way. (Your statement does not disprove that first life happened by abiogenesis. )
Let me ask you this: Is there any evidence that DISPROVES that the first self-replicating molecules came out of nowhere? If there isn't, then what are you making such a fuss about?
Please remember that the Theory of Evolution is a THEORY and not a 100% fact.. We haven't pieced together all the pieces of 'first life', so no one will be able to give you 100% facts. For those who don't know: A scientific theory is not a buch of unproven, loose statements, but a solid collection of facts, mixed with -clearly defined- hypotheses, based on observed evidence.
The Theory of Evolution has been applied to all sorts of fields and has survived 150 years of testing already.
It cannot answer with certainty where the first cell came from, but that doesn;t mean it we will never fidn the answer...
Religion claims to know where life comes from, but I think that if the scientific community can't guarantee anything, religion has no right to speak; all their 'evidence' comes from 1 outdated book.
