Just to add a little fuel to the fire here, there are a few other traits which humans have that animals do not:
1. Imagination
2. Individual creativity
3. Appreciation of beauty for its own sake
4. The desire to express one's individuality
5. The ability to communicate in abstract language (like this)
6. A concept of the distant past as expressed through writings and words and stories.
7. A concept of the distant future; the desire/ability to prepare for that future for children and grandchildren
8. The desire to show/prove intellectual superiority
9. The drive to look at life through a philosophical frame of reference
10. The drive/desire to harness nature itself
And then, of course, the entire concept of morality. If we claim morality or ethics for any animal, we are anthropomorphizing. They do not claim moral or ethical behavior for themselves. They operate on instinct. Humans have hardly any instincts compared to the animal kingdom. A newborn has the instinct to suck and to grasp. That's about it! What other instincts do humans have? Sex is instinctual for animals, but we seem to need a multitude of texts on the subject!
There is an unbridgeable chasm between man and the animal kingdom.
