ArchivedWhy pray to Mary?newseed Wrote: Its apparent that you have not read my previous posts on this thread. I used Scripture only, no tradition to support my claim that saints can intercede for us. newseed, show me where I used tradition, so I can throw it out for you. I will re post the Scriptures I used, because its obvious you havent read anything in this thread. Here are some of the Sciptures I quoted to support the Catholic church's teaching, that Saints can intercede for the living. Eph. 3:14-15- we are all one family ("Catholic") in heaven and on earth, united together, as children of the Father, through Jesus Christ. Our brothers and sisters who have gone to heaven before us are not a different family. We are one and the same family. This is why, in the Apostles Creed, we profess a belief in the "communion of saints." There cannot be a "communion" if there is no union. "I appeal to you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, to strive together with me in your prayers to God on my behalf" (Romans 15:30). "Brethren, pray for us" (1 Thessalonians 5:25). First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all men, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life, godly and respectful in every way. This is good, and it is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 2:1-4). "The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects" (James 5:16b). who more righteous then the saints in heaven? 2 Maccabees, where Judah has had a vision in which St. Onias the high priest shows him Jeremiah the prophet, now in heaven, and we read: "And Onias spoke, saying, 'This is a man who loves the brethren and prays much for the people and the holy city, Jeremiah, the prophet of God'" (2 Maccabees 15:14). Protestants will not tend to like that passage since it is from one of the deuterocanonical books-the seven books of the Old Testament that Martin Luther cut out of the Bible-but the same is taught in the New Testament, for in the book of Revelation we read: "And when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and with golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints" (Revelation 5:8. The above is some scripture that indicates, intercession is biblical. And that its not only limited to those on earth. Now this is the tip of the ice berg, I dont have much time to go into the scriptures in full. I have given you my Scriptures to support my claim that saints in heaven can intercede for us. I ask you to provide me with scripture from the NT, that indicates even in the slightest that saints in heaven cannot intercede for the living. No tradition, just pure scripture for you guys. Good luck Peace |
