CWA Blasts Nickelodeon for Pro-Homosexual Special 6/19/2002
WASHINGTON D.C. - Concerned Women for America President Sandy Rios blasted the Nickelodeon network last night for manipulating and misleading children by presenting a pro-homosexual bias in its presentation of gay parenting.
"Until last night, Nickelodeon was a fairly harmless cable network with programming for kids and young adults," said Rios. "Today, it is a network that American parents can no longer trust in presenting honest information to their children. Indeed, last night's show, although making an attempt to present the Christian viewpoint, in fact, left it up to children to defend their faith against pro-homosexual adults. Nickelodeon is no longer a safe place for America’s children."
My Family Is Different cut out the story of a man who was traumatized as a child by his mother’s embrace of lesbianism. A Nickelodeon crew interviewed CWA’s Carmelo Torres and his family in their home last month, but the program did not air any of the interview. (A video clip of Torres’ family played in the background for a few seconds during a separate interview.) Meanwhile, the program began with a long sympathetic segment about a girl and her two lesbian moms.
Rios joined CNN news anchor Wolf Blitzer and other critics in questioning why a program that purported to be fair in telling both sides of a highly controversial issue featured three homosexual adults — and no adults with a traditional viewpoint — in a discussion with children. One of the adults was an openly “gay” firefighter involved in the September 11 rescue effort.
Last night, on CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Reports, Blitzer, who received an advance copy of the Nick News special, asked Linda Ellerbee, who wrote and hosted the program:
All right, Linda, why don't you get back to that issue of why all the people on the set — the adults on the set — were all homosexuals, and that there was no one who would take a different — from an adult perspective — a different stance?
“Let’s be clear,” Rios said. “Homosexuality results in death, disease, and sorrow. It is a sad and perverse lifestyle that should NEVER be propagated to children.”

I was also horrified when my sister revealed that Nickelodeon aired a pro-gay "marriage' commercial. How
they expose our kids to this trash? Whatever happened to standing up for Christian values?!
