So what you are stating is that you believe in a doctrine that purges you don't know what! What is the soul? Do you equate soul with spirit; soul with thought; soul with physical life?
The Bibe teaches that upon death our thoughts cease, our body returns to dust, and our spirits return to Him who gave it. So what needs to be purged?
First of all I am not a doctor of the Church, so I do not know everything to a exact point, so I say to MY understanding Just incase I could be wrong, when infact I know I am most likely correct.
I check everything up before I quote on any Church matters/teachings as my comments should not be against any Church doctrine.

A simply answer to that would be your eternal Soul.
Matthew 5:25-26 ff (see also Luke 12:52-59) " Make friends quickly with your accuser, while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison; truly, I say to you, you will never get out till you have paid the last penny."
This is an example of ones purification occuring after death. For the judgement comes after death, and it is after this "judgement" that you are handed over "till you have paid the last penny." Since you are going to be released after you've have paid the last penny, then this place of "prison" cannot be hell, and since it is a prison, it cannot be heaven. Therefore, it must be a third state.
And it will ovbiously "purge" your Soul.
Peace You are quoting from a parable taught before the resurrection. Rev 12:10-12
"Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, who accuses them before our God day and night. 11 "And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even to death. 12 "For this reason, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them. Woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, knowing that he has only a short time."
NAS
Col 2:13-15
13 And when you were dead in your transgressions and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions, 14 having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us and which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.
NAS
Heb 1:1-4
1:1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high; 4 having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.
NAS
The debts we owe have been cancelled (purged) and our accuser has been defeated. This simple fact of the benefits we receive as a result of the resurrection eliminated the need to be purged.
Purgatory is a false doctrine.
